The objective of the Problem Solving for Better Health® (PSBH®) program in Belarus is to improve health of the people through education, change of attitudes, and direct intervention. The program is carried out as a partnership between DHF and Brest State University. This cooperation was greatly facilitated by Dr. Jan Sobotka, regional coordinator for Europe and the Middle East. A wide range of specialists from many fields, predominantly medicine and education have participated in the country’s workshops.
Belarus became a member of the Communications for Better Health® (CBH®) program in 2004, under the direction of Dr. Vladimir Gordeiko, an environmental health specialist based at Brest State University. The first issue of the Belarussian Health Information Digest was produced at the end of December 2004. The digest is in Russian and contains abstracts from Medline, project information, and a section of original articles, some of which have never been published before. Topics include cancer, dental/oral health, the environment, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, psychology, and tuberculosis. The digest was distributed to medical colleges, universities, libraries, health institutions, and specialized health clinics.
