The Problem Solving for Better Health® (PSBH®) program is coordinated by the Polish Society of Hygiene (PSH) in Warsaw, Poland. PSH actively collaborates with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Marshal's Office of Kujawsko-Pomorska Province, the Sanitary and Epidemiology Station in Zgorzelec, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, pharmaceutical firms, and non-governmental organizations. Problem Solving for Better Health – Nursing™ (PSBHN™) collaborates with the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs, the Main Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, the Polish Association of Nurses, the Department of Health (Marshall Office of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province), the Faculty of Health Sciences (Bydgoszcz), and the public health faculty at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun.

The program’s goals are to improve the quality of health care, decrease the prevalence of chronic diseases, increase early diagnosis of cancer, promote health in schools, and promote participation of local government and society in health care organizations. Activities and accomplishments include setting up dayrooms for children, uniting society in activities against addictions, providing aid to flood victims, introducing a teeth lacquering program to schools, heart protection of residents, prevention and rehabilitation of postural deformities in children, and the preparation of 50 senior nurses for upcoming health reforms with the European Union (EU).

The PSBH methodology also caused the initiation of many changes in Kujawsko Pomorska Province. The first Kujawsko-Pomorska Initiative Workshop took place on September 21-23, 2000. After the workshop, many health-oriented activities began. On the basis of PSBH methodology and 44 projects prepared during the workshop, 150 new projects were developed by local organizations, resulting in a total of 194 projects in 2000. The projects are in accordance with the National Health Program and cover the following issues: prevention of cardiovascular diseases, early diagnosis of cancer, nutrition, anti-alcohol abuse and anti-drug addiction programs, mental disorders, injuries, infectious diseases, and promotion of physical activity and health education. An official "Group for Health Promotion in Kujawsko-Pomorska Province," affiliated with the local government office, is in charge of supervision and support of the projects.
