Report of "Best Practices" in Latin America (Portuguese and Spanish)

The Problem Solving for Better Health® (PSBH®) program in Guyana was established in collaboration with the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and implemented with the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Guyana. The primary objective is to initiate and facilitate better health for all, beginning at the community level. The program has been successful in working with local institutions and agencies to replicate the PSBH process locally, such as the rehabilitation services of the Ministry of Health, regional health officers, the Guyana Nurses' Association, and the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO).

The Communications for Better Health® (CBH®) program began in 1992 as a collaborative effort between the Center for International Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Guyana, and DHF. The Guyana Health Information Digest is distributed to health professionals, health workers, and students. The program also supports the information needs of its readers by conducting database searches on requested topics and through the provision of full-text delivery of articles. The digest contains information about communicable diseases, diabetes, hypertension, nutrition, respiratory diseases, and other health issues. Each issue provides information on local health issues and research from local contributors, as well as from regional and international journals and databases. The digest serves as a valuable source of information for workshop participants.
